By Antin Rudnytsky (1902=1975)
Published by legacy publisher, Trigram Music. These piano pieces are easy enough to learn and enjoyable to play for beginners or those who want to take on a 2nd instrument.
Antin Rudnytsky's first compositions appeared in 1920. He was written three symphonies, two operas, piano works, song cycles, chamber music, and large choral works. His music is characterized by being lyrical-dramatic in nature, conservatively-modern i n harmony, and melodically displaying a Ukrainian national feeling, either through the use of actual folk song material or with original melodies in the style and mood of such folk songs.
Variations on a Simple Theme is one of the finest and most typical examples of his writing. The theme is original but in the mood of a Ukrainian folk song. The variations tend to be permeated by characteristic full harmonies and thick textures. The work is dedicated to the composer's eldest son, concert pianist Roman Rudntatsky.
