Robert Schumann was one of the noted leaders of the romantic movement , with his genius expressing itself mainly in the writings for his instrument , the piano. This new romantic school insisted on meaningful ideas and not the worship of form, as the classical period had. Schumann created no new models to follow, but he did expand the art of piano playing.
