This is a small bore trombone handmade by Manfred Schmelzer in Germany. It has a distinctive bell section shaped like the classic Williams model 6. The curved braces are solid, helping with balance in their minimalist way. The .508" hand slide is all nickel with brass crook and has excellent action. Included are two interchangeable leadpipes. The bell is very light, made of all gold brass. The ornate hand engraving on the bell is a nice touch that's rarely seen.
If you want an all-around snappy Schmelzer trombone that services you well, this is it. This Model 2 has the warmth of a Bach Bill Watrous model but a lighter feel and an instant center. You can lead with a whip or make them swoon with this horn. It's lively and clear but voluptuous.
Includes lightweight hard case, mouthpiece sold separately.
Herr Schmelzer will retire this year. This is the last model 2.
