The Chinook brings effortlessness and facility to the bass trombone designed to create a warm thick tone, and easy articulation. The Chinook is a balanced trombone mouthpiece with a powerful bass trombone voice. It is similar in size to a Schilke 60 with a more comfortable rim for better endurance.

This mouthpiece is designed for Don Harwood, bass trombone New York Philharmonic. Don's mouthpiece is designed to make his job easier by projecting the clear independent voice of the orchestral bass trombone while locking in on octaves with the tuba, and supporting the trombone section of the orchestra. This mouthpiece will support any orchestral section, designed with a unique throat and backbore that keeps it controllable, and fun to play in all ensembles. A semi flat rim that is extremely comfortable. Medium deep cup similar to a Schilke 60, and a balanced back bore and throat that project make this a very versatile bass trombone mouthpiece.

This piece has the same cup and rim as the Chinook but with a considerably more open throat and backbore. The results are everything I wanted and more. Everyone I have played the Chinook S series mouthpiece for has felt there is more sound, sooner and a darker, mellower tone with abundant core and projection.

Our newest bass trombone solo mouthpiece. It is slightly heavier than our other pieces. It is are similar to a Schilke 60CV inner rim diameter. The solo has much less cup volume than the orchestral model that would compare to slightly shallower than a medium cup depth. It produces a clean and pure tone.

Testimonials

"Results are what I am after when searching for a mouthpiece.  Clarity, sonority and richness of sound are obvious qualities that I find are present in this Giddings stainless steel mouthpiece.  The high quality, engineering and workmanship that has gone into the development of  this piece is exactly what I have been looking for.  Air efficiency, reliability, accuracy and presence of sound in either a supporting bass line or for a solo line are all attributes found in the Giddings.  For extreme dynamics, flexibility of tone color and blending capabilities, this mouthpiece has all these features and more.

I have been very impressed with the professionalism, integrity and expertise of the Giddings Company and am happy to have had the opportunity to collaborate with them in the design of this mouthpiece."

"Actually I have been playing the Chinook for more than a year or so now. I have tried most of the bass trombone line as well as most of the other brands. There are may very fine mouthpieces out there and I feel they all have something to offer but the Chinook produced something for me in terms of tone color that was quite special. I do a variety of work in multitude of styles and I feel I can cover pretty much all the bases I need to with the Chinook. And I really like the feel of the stainless steel on my face. The Chinook allows me to plant my feet firmly in the middle of the road and take a good, big step to either side when needed. The only slight frustration felt was the lack of ability to move more enough slow velocity, high flow air through the extreme low notes that pop up all too frequently these days. Ivan and I bounced ideas around for quite some time about creating something more open on the bottom without losing the basic tone color I liked so much. One day Ivan shared a brainstorm with me that sounding promising and sent one down for me to try. This piece has the same cup and rim as the Chinook but with a considerably more open throat and backbore. The results were not what either of us would have predicted but pretty much everything I wanted and more. Everyone I have played it for has felt there is more sound, sooner and a darker, mellower tone with abundant core and projection. What can I say, I am thrilled!"
