Item Details

Various 20th century techniques described so that you can understand how to accomplish these techniques.

This book is not intended to supplant existing works on the trombone, but rather to complement them.  It is addressed to composers as well as trombonists and teachers, and aims to make all readers aware of the techniques that are idiomatic to the trombone.  Each chapter is a unit and is designed to be read separately if desired.  The book as a whole is an invitation to experiment with the materials provided...

Includes CD, a list of recorded examples and a bibliography.

Dempster was born in Berkeley, California in 1936. His book The Modern Trombone: A Definition of Its Idioms was first published in 1979. He has recorded on several labels including Columbia, Deep Listening, Nonesuch, and New Albion, the latter having produced his “Abbey” recording (NA 013).
