Beelzebub began life 130 years ago as an entry in the Carl Fischer Music competition for instrumental solos by well-known New England tubist Andrea Catozzi and has become a challenging staple of the repertoire. The solo follows a theme-and-variations format, with choice elements such as a cadenza, a march section, and a furious finale.
