The JP332 Rath represents John Packer's flagship Bb/F large bore tenor trombone designed and manufactured in collaboration with Michael Rath, one of the UK's leading trombone specialists. With an unparalleled level of craftsmanship, the JP332 Rath is the result of many years of development and features some exclusive components that players won't find on other instruments. A custom designed Rath leadpipe was created especially for the JP332 Rath which gives excellent response in all registers whilst retaining support for inexperienced players. The instrument also features an ergonomic thumb lever which is easy to adjust for smaller hands. The open-wrap design and counterweight ensure optimum balance and a free blowing low range.

It was very clear from first blowing the JP3320RATH trombone that it had a very clear, vibrant and open sound.  An exciting colour of sounds throughout the register and a real and rare treat being so open in the trigger register.

I trialed this trombone in the orchestra in various concerts and recordings from Shostakovich to Brahms and the projection was very easily achievable due to the responsiveness of the instrument. I also played the trombone in the brass band and it was here I realized the versatility of the instrument throughout all registers and dynamics.

The most important value is that the JP3320RATH is not out of place amongst other model trombones within the section, being very easy to blend with.

A very fine model of trombone, perfect for players in whatever field of ensemble. An extremely true and easy blowing trombone suitable for all.

When clients want a Conn 88H but wish for a lower price, I always recommend this JP Rath 332O.  The response is very light, tone is malleable, build quality is good, slide is smooth, parts and service are easy to get.  It's really a terrific trombone for the price.  Is it an heirloom?  Maybe, but it's certainly durable goods quality: it can be your premier horn for 5 years+.  The included mouthpiece is fine.  I like the Ferguson 1 mouthpiece on the JP Rath, which allows a little more open low range and the tone is less brittle when you push the volume.  The very open but compact F-loop with the angled ports from the rotors shows a nice attention to detail.  It has a lot of nickel trim and a very light bell.  A weighty student horn this is not.  Younger players or those not used to a Bb/F trombone might like feel of the included balance weight.  It's removable with a screwdriver, so I'd also try it without the weight to compare.  The lighter setup may suit your grip better, or may change the tone to your liking.
