Item Details
This is a Bb-F double descant horn made by Paxman Horns in the UK. This model 40 has an all nickel valve set with brass branches and bell. Includes stopping valve for the Bb side. The horn is used, unlacquered, and well cared for. Some tarnish is showing as is to be expected. You could polish it or resign yourself to the fact that unlacquered horns tarnish. The threaded cap for the change valve is cracked but it seems to work fine. Includes hard case.
The owner of this model 40 bought it from hornist, composer and conductor Robert Henderson. Henderson bought it from Vince DeRosa, who purchased this new in London and brought it home with him. Built in 1978.
The owner played it on many orchestra jobs, mentioning its beautiful sound- rich and warm. The Paxman matches well with Conn 8D’s with its big sound and gives confidence in the high register. Yellow brass and definitely with the L bell…that's the best.
