Item Details

This is a used King 2103 small bore tenor trombone, made in Eastlake, Ohio, USA  This is home of King manufacturing from 1964. The serial number is lightly stamped but looks like 999509 or 399509.  Either way, it's probably 10 years old, originally purchased from The Horn Guys Long Beach store by a local SoCal player who has retired and consigned it here.

This trombone is in very good condition with some minor surface marks on the finish.  It looks to have had no major repairs or dents.  Lacquer is about 100%, and there a few tiny dings and some scratches from handling, mute insertion, bumping into music stands, etc.  The end crook has some marks but no dents worth noting or fixing.  Small bit of lacquer wear where the left thumb goes, small acid bleed mark at bell rim.  The slide action is absolutely spectacular, as good as any King slide: smooth action and nearly silent when dry.  This is good news: new King slides have generally been haphazard in mechanical action for many years.  (Me: King dealer and slide fusser for 20 years).

I spent a few minutes bleating on the King - this is a very nice horn.  Besides the inviting slide action, the tone is really rich like J.J. Johnson would want.  It's also especially nimble, flipping between harmonics easily.  Pitch is good, you should have this - I'd take it to a gig.

  • .509" bore all nickel hand slide, small shank, round end crook
  • 8" 2-piece brass bell, reverse tuning slide, nickel trim, balance weight
  • King hard case and M31 mouthpiece
