This is a new design triple horn made by Alexander in Mainz, Germany. A client ordered one recently so if you'd like one too, we'll arrange a small deposit and ship to you in 8 months or less.
The 301 is an attempt to...depending upon how you look at it...add a descant F side to an existing double horn...or...create a triple horn with a very decent low range as well. The 301 succeeds at both.
The 301 uses the standard design of the 103 double horn, but adds the F-alto change valve from the new 107X descant horn. This new change valve design allows a longer, properly tapered leadpipe, and a separate properly tapered bell branch. In addition, the 301 uses rotors of smaller diameter (25mm vs 27mm) for light weight, and its bell flare is lighter than normal. This way you have a fairly nimble instrument that's not too weighty.
