Jin Bao
|
Eb alto
|
A Chinese-made student quality instrument based on
the excellent German Slokar model 125. We test these for
leaks and have the slides tuned up as necessary to ensure a fine playing
instrument for relatively little money. Despite the low price, you
can trust that the Jin Bao will be an excellent basic alto trombone.
They've made a faithful recreation of the German design, but at a lower
quality fit and finish. However, it's very useable for any
situation. Played by Phil Keen, Southern California professional
free-lance-symphony guy. We have 12 in stock. All have slide
tune-ups by Brad Close. If you're not sure about playing alto and
want to try it out with an inexpensive instrument, this is the
one. In all yellow brass with brass slide and nickel trim,
lacquered, with hard case and mouthpiece. Optional red brass
bell, add $25

B&S Eb alto
|
Small bore Eb alto trombone, made in Germany, with gold brass bell,
nickel slide. Good player in mint condition, but not completely
centered in the very low range. Pitch is decent, traditional
smaller sound. Includes mouthpiece, but this really should use a
smaller shank mouthpiece like the old Conns and Olds. We just
found an old Olds mouthpiece that works OK. Includes
hard case.

made using traditional European manufacturing techniques and retains
many of the beautiful playing qualities of German trombones with the

garland. The slide is a wide nickel silver alloy. German snake
decorations adorn both the tuning slide and slide crook. Includes a

COMING SOON Glassl |
Eb alto |
From Nauheim, Germany comes the rare and famous Glassl alto trombone.
Regarded as one of the finest altos ever made, you've heard them
played by Mark Lawrence of the San Francisco Symphony and other
discerning players. Herr Glassl has retired and has sold his
company and tooling to Adams in Holland. Adams may again offer
the alto. We shall see. In the mean time, we arranged to
purchase Glassl's remaining stock of trombones. We have one
left. This is the last Glassl alto trombone, and it's a
beauty. It's made of solid Sterling silver with some gold
trim, same as below but without snake ornamentation. Includes
custom gig bag with a fully rigid slide compartment.

NEW Kuhnl & Hoyer |
122 Eb |
Beautiful German Eb alto with gold brass bell, nickel slide. This
is one of our favorites at any price. Lighter than the Glassl,
more colorful sound than the Conn, flawless workmanship and sleek
design. This feels a bit smaller than the Slokar version, and for
me, easier to hit those pesky high Eb's. Excellent all around
alto, the best on the market at this price. Sold without
case. The price was very high on the stock hard case, so we sell
them in a paper bag. Cronkhite and B&S cases are
available.

NEW Kanstul
|
1602BP
|
New Alan Kaplan model is based on an old '40's H.N. White trombone,
similar to today's Jiggs Whigham model, but with a lighter, large
throat bell. The Kanstul features a 7.5" lightweight bell,
in either .020", which has a slightly warmer sound and greater
projection, or a very light .018" bell, which can get hot if
you aren't gentle with the air stream, but centers in so well up high,
it's become Alan's favorite. The stock slide is a very
lightweight brass with nickel trim and lightweight handbrace, in .500" bore.
.491" straight bore or dual bore is available, but so far, we
think the .500" slide is the winner, as it's easier to get a
decent loud volume with less effort.

Professional small bore tenor, based on the Earl Williams model 6. This
particular instrument was made with a .0225" thickness yellow brass
bell (with brass supplied from Shires). This is similar to the
original bell thickness on many of the original Williams trombones.
We find this horn to play with a warm and complex sound. Works best
with a nickel silver slide. In near mint condition, was demo'd thus
the B stock designation. Includes SKB case and 3 leadpipes. |

1606
|
The Williams 6 recreated, .500" lightweight
nickel slide, distinctive Hollywood style bracing and tuning slide,
8" yellow brass bell, 2 removable threaded leadpipes with Shires
style threads, several bell and slide options. Big present sound
with amazing color and versatility. The range on this horn is
fantastic in all registers and responds to exactly what you do. I
was surprised at the little amount of work I had to do to get this
trombone to sound amazing. The prototype sold right away to a very
happy buyer. This is the best copy of a Williams trombone to date,
using modern technology Zig was able to recreate the tapers to exact
standards. The result, one of the best jazz trombones on the market.
Bells available in .020" or .025" brass, nickel or brass slide
tubes. The Williams model has that classic 1970's Los Angeles studio
sound. For you old-schoolers out there, this is the trombone for
you.

This is a beautiful step-up horn in the small bore realm. It has
a dual bore .500"/.530" lightweight brass slide, a very sleek open
wrap F-attachment with pull to E, a custom adjustable thumb trigger
with German mini-ball linkages, and an 8" lightweight .020" bronze
bell. includes hard case and mouthpiece. If you prefer a
smaller bore horn and like an F-attachment too, give this one a
look. It compares with the King 3BF, but I think it's a nicer
horn. Beware those with wide jaw shapes may find clearance
issues between the narrow slide and valve section. These horns
are made specially for us, and are an upgrade compared to the stock

We're testing a special variation on the Kanstul 1508. This model
is a replica of an obscure early 1950's Conn 8HSP, as played by
trombonists Bill Booth and
Tim Stone. The "SP" denomination on Conn trombones meant that
the instrument was a special order. This
horn features a .547" bronze slide with removable leadpipes, a bell
section with a bronze neckpipe, rose brass crook, and .020" bronze
8" bell. it's the all bronze/rose detail and the 8" bell that
makes this horn play with a gorgeous sound. We're also testing different weights
of slides. If you like a lightweight large tenor with a
compact sound, and vintage lineage, this may be your ticket to
heaven. A new leadpipe based on the original Conn 8HSP is now
available, known as the Kanstul 8.

One time offer: With silver plated bell and 24K plated gold
tuning slide, heavy nickel outer sleeves on the slide. Modeled after
Bill Booth's early 1950's 8H. Awesome player! $2000

REDUCED Willson |
411TA |
Hand built large tenor trombone from Willson Instruments in Geneva
Switzerland. Features a Swiss rotary valve. The oversized Rotax
rotary is precision machined to perfect tolerances, the larger
vented ports give this valve an even response on both the open and F
sides of the trombone and a open blowing characteristic. The valve
action is fast and with a short throw. It has an open wrap F
attachment. This model also has some unique options. The inner slide
tubes are plated with a titanium nitride coating giving the inner
slide tubes a golden appearance. The coating hardens the surface of
the inner tubes, giving a smoother surface non lubricated. With
lubrication the slides are top notch. This model also has a 8.5"
yellow brass bell flare. The outer slide is nickel silver with a
yellow brass end crook. An excellent playing professional trombone.

1688 |
If you've always wished Conn made a slide tuning 88H, here you
go. Brand new from Kanstul, a unique slide tuning large bore tenor
trombone with F attachment is sure to get some attention. It was
designed to give the player a warm, rich dark tone color combined
with the ease of playing of the classic Conn 88H's. It uses the new
CR (controlled resistance) rotary valve to balance both Bb and F
sides of the trombone. The open wrapped valve section alleviates
resistance in the valve register. The tuning mechanism in the slide
allows for a complete conical end bow which constantly expands
through to the end of the bell flare. This feature, along with the
minimal bell bracing allows the instrument to vibrate more freely
giving a noticeable difference in the timbre of the trombone. For
people looking for a tenor trombone with the warmest sound, and is
easy to play, be sure to check this model from Kanstul. This is one
of the easiest playing and most pleasing trombones we've seen in a
while. In stock, in bronze bell with solder in the rim. This
is the last one of the first production run. Future models will be
available by special order with deposit. I believe the new models will be priced at
about $3200.

REDUCED Willson |
511TA |
Hand built bass
trombone from Willson Instruments in Switzerland. Features double
inline Swiss rotary valves in Bb/F/Gb/D. The oversized Rotax rotary
is precision machined to perfect tolerances, the larger vented ports
give this valve an even response on both the open and valve sides
of the bass trombone and a open free blowing characteristic. The
valve action is fast and with a short throw. The valve sections are
open wrapped. These valves are great, and really help make this bass
trombone a stand out player. This trombone also has the unique
feature of titanium nitride coated inner slide tubes. The coating
makes the inner tubes harder and with a smoother surface. The inner
tubes are golden in color. The outer slide tubes are made from
nickel silver with a yellow brass end crook. The bell flare is 10"
yellow brass. This is a great playing professional bass trombone and
a great deal.
